Anne-Rae Vasquez interviews UBC President Arvind Gupta
In this episode of Fiction Frenzy TV, Anne-Rae Vasquez interviews Dr. Arvind Gupta, the 13th President and Vice-chancellor of the University of British Columbia (UBC) on behalf of Digital Journal via Fiction Frenzy TV.
Professor Gupta talks about how he is using social media to connect with students and to understand the challenges they face. He believes that technology will help teaching and learning by shrinking the world with the Flexible Learning Initiative and distance education, pointing out that his experience as professor of Computer Science makes him very keen on using echnology to help support faculty with their teaching and students with learning. He discusses his vision about how UBC needs to be more entrepreneurial, connecting faculty, students and staff with future partnerships forged within the local and international community. He talks about how leadership is about listening to people and knowing when to admit you’re wrong. He talks about “leadership is being a part of the team and guiding others.”
