Who says I can’t be the next Amanda Hocking?

I’ve read about four different self published author blogs where the general advice is… If you are self-publishing, don’t think you are going to be like Amanda Hocking. Amanda Hocking, if you don’t know, is a self published author who sold over 1 million copies of her Kindle books. You can read more about Amanda by clicking here.

Sorry, but I’m not going to take that advice. If you do your research, Amanda Hocking worked her butt off marketing her book online with social media, blogging, guest blogging for a couple of years. Her kindle book did not just immediately start selling when she uploaded it. She invested time marketing her book, promoting it and herself.

I believe if you do your homework, invest your time in finding out where your readers are, learn how to maximize social media tools (ie. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc.), create and write great blog content, then you have a chance of selling your book. Wait, one more thing… Your book better be good which simply means, it better be so good, you’re willing to put your money where your mouth is. If you don’t believe in your book, no one else will. And…no matter how much marketing you put towards any product, if the product stinks, then people will not be jumping to share it with others. Word of mouth is still the strongest way to market products.

I told my friend today… if I set small goals… sell 100 books by end of this month, 1000 next month… maybe, just maybe I can sell 1 million books myself. She turned to me and laughed. I looked her in the eye and said, “I mean it.” She nodded her head and said, “You know what. I believe you. You told me 2 years ago that you were going to make a feature film… and you did.” I smiled. Yes, I won’t let these blogger experts tell me that I can’t reach for the stars. I’m just going to start reaching… it doesn’t hurt to try, right?

Enuff said. ; )

You can check out info about the feature film at: www.almostaturkishsoapopera.com It will be released on DVD on Amazon in a few weeks.
