Review by Ravina on the 8th stop of my Book Tour and wonderful surprises

Today I came home exhausted mentally, not expecting anything but curling up in a ball and falling asleep in front of the fireplace. When I checked my email, I found a beautiful review on Amazon and GoodReads for my poetry book Gathering Dust which lifted my spirits. This really meant a lot to me because poetry was my first form of creative writing. As a child and early teens and then to adulthood, I was always writing, scribbling a poem to distract me from the sometimes harshness of life.

Now that wasn’t the only treat for me today. Another pleasant surprise was finding a review for my book Almost a Turkish Soap Opera on GoodReads and Amazon by Ravina Andrea Kurian. Her review was very deep and insightful. The review is also the 8th stop of my book tour on “Mommy Adventures with Ravina’s Blog”. Below is the review or you can click here to read the review.

Review by Ravina Andrea Kurian for Almost a Turkish Soap Opera.

When we read about people like Adel and Kamil, we think they are wonderful characters in a book. Truth be told, their stories and conflicts are more real than many of us would like to admit. The Arab Spring was evidence of this, and many younger Middle Easterners spoke out in the hopes of better lives and futures but have they completely been set free from the chains they recognise as tradition?

This novel depicts Adel’s journey in a candid manner and I loved that each chapter was short and engaging. The author provided just the right balance between each character, situation and background information. You were never once left with wanting to know more. I am not sure if the book was politically motivated, but there are undercurrents of these and yet, you somehow become emotionally involved with each character. You step away from this book feeling sorry, sad and happy for more than one character. Excellent, excellent, writing.

Would I recommend this read? Oh yes, definitely.
